US-19 New River Gorge National Park Entrance Intersections Study
The Fayette-Raleigh Metropolitan Planning Organization (FRMPO) conducted the US-19 New River Gorge National Park Entrance Intersections Study to evaluate long-term transportation improvements near the park’s primary northern entrances. Building on recommendations from the 2025 US-19 Corridor Study, this effort examines the intersections of US-19 with Fayette Mine Road/Burnwood Campground Drive and Lansing-Edmond Road/Ames Heights Road, where high travel speeds, limited sight distance, challenging turning movements, and frequent use by RVs, rafting buses, and vehicles towing trailers create safety and operational concerns. The study includes field observations, conceptual layouts, preliminary cost estimates, and environmental screening for two potential long-term alternatives, providing a foundation for future feasibility analysis and selection of a preferred improvement.
